Description
Kinefinity KineMAG Nano 2TB
The next-generation KineMAG SSD, known as the KineMAG Nano 2TB, is specifically engineered for the MAVO Edge 8K, MAVO Edge 6K, MAVO S35 Mark 2 and the the MAVO LF Mark 2. It consists of the KineMAG Nano Body paired with an M.2¹ 2280 SSD that utilizes the NVMe² protocol. With transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps, it facilitates enhanced encoding freedom for both high-resolution and frame rates. Moreover, the NVMe M.2 SSD is much more compact than its SATA SSD counterpart. One can even slot two KineMAG Nano 2TB units into the MAVO Edge 8K/6K, enabling features like backup recording, relay recording, and much more.
Two sophisticated ports are integrated into the KineMAG Nano 2TB: a durable camera port, ensuring recording from MAVO Edge 8K/6K directly onto the KineMAG, and a universal USB-C³ port for swift data transfers and backups to workstations. This USB-C port, compliant with the USB3.1 Gen2 protocol, facilitates lightning-fast 10Gbps transfers without the necessity of a separate SSD reader.
The KineMAG Nano 2TB boasts a specialized NVMe M.2 1TB SSD, providing two primary safety features:
Read-only: This feature restricts the KineMAG Nano 2TB’s functionality to only be writable within the MAVO Edge 8K/6K. Once data is transferred through the USB-C port, the content is readable but not writable. This safeguard substantially minimizes risks like unintentional deletions or formatting after its removal from the camera, ensuring data protection during backups or transfers.
RAID 5: The KineMAG’s SSD is built on the principles of RAID 5. Commonly, SSDs utilize NAND Flash which sometimes can lead to data integrity issues. However, with RAID 5 design, damaged data can be restored using residual data and parity info, fortifying data security. The auto-activated RAID 5 ensures robust data safety for invaluable footage.
Unlike other professional-grade camera SSDs, the KineMAG Nano 2TB’s architecture includes a universal USB-C USB3.1 Gen2 port for data offloading or backups. This design eliminates the need for a specific SSD reader – just a compatible USB-C cable ensures speedy transfers of up to 10Gbps. This is both fast and incredibly user-friendly.
Notes:
- M.2 Interface: This replaces older Mini PCI Express and mSATA standards. The product employs an NVMe/PCIe SSD rather than a SATA SSD.
- NVMe Protocol: A device interface specification that’s based on the logical interface of the device for accessing non-volatile memory via the PCI Express bus.
- USB-C Port: Also known as USB Type-C, this is a symmetrical plug design ensuring easy connection without orientation concerns. This product’s USB-C port supports up to 10Gbps transfer speeds with the USB3.1 Gen2 protocol.
- RAID 5: This involves multiple disks to form an array. It utilizes redundancy to recover potentially corrupted data.
Expected Recording Times for KineMAG Nano 1TB on MAVO Edge 8K:
Recording Format | Recording Time |
---|---|
4K@25fps ProRes422HQ(.mov) | 5 hrs 24 mins |
4K@25fps ProRes4444(.mov) | 2 hrs 36 mins |
8K@25fps ProRes422HQ(.mov) | 1 hr 20 mins |
8K@25fps ProRes4444(.mov) | 54 mins |
Please note: The times mentioned above are approximations and might vary based on specific test scenarios.
Is KineMAG Nano SSD compatible with Kinefinity cameras prior to MAVO Edge 8K?
No, because the shape and interface of the KineMAG Nano are newly designed, and the parameters of the Kinefinity SSD before the KineMAG Nano SSD are different, so it is not compatible with the cameras before MAVO Edge 8K.
Are there other capacities?
Currently, Kinfinity only offers a 1TB capacity option.
Can a third-party NVMe M.2 SSD be used?
Yes, the MAVO Edge 8K allows the use of a third-party NVMe M.2 SSD, but to adapt to the SSD slot and SSD compartment of the MAVO Edge 8K camera, the third-party NVMe M.2 SSD must:
1. Installed in the KineMAG Nano Body;
2. SSD has to be NVMe M.2 SSD, not SATA M.2 SSD;
3. The physical size is the 2280-S3 specification.
The KineMAG Nano Body provides a special heat dissipation design for the third-party NVMe M.2 SSD, and it not only has a dedicated camera port for the MAVO Edge 8K but also a universal USB-C interface that supports USB3.1 Gen2. Similarly, no additional SSD reader is required for high-speed offloading data to the workstation.
NOTE: The third-party NVMe M.2 SSD does not have the Read-only features and RAID 5 of the KineMAG Nano SSD, so it cannot provide the two major safety features of the KineMAG Nano SSD.
How long is the warranty for the KineMAG Nano SSD?
The product warranty is a 1-year warranty or 2000TBW. Repair application can be submitted in 1 year from the day of purchase or Terabytes Written less than 2000TBW.
