Description

10 piece Leica-R Lens Set

Up for sale is a 10 piece Leica R lens set in custom laser cutted Pelicase, handpicked, cine modded and all in excellent condition regarding its age. This set of Leica primes consists of selected lenses from the 70s that give the famous Leica look, a warm and soft image with good sharpness.

These Leicas are comparable to the Panavision Primo lenses, because they are probably based on the same design. All the lenses in this set are converted to EF mount (hardmounted) and are equipped with a high grade 0.8 pitch gear ring on the focus helicoid and are all regreased for a smooth focus throw. All lenses have a custom lens cap with their focal length and serial number/ All lenses except the 15,16 and 19 have a 80mm front outer diameter for clamp on matteboxes, the 19mm simply has a larger front than 80mm and for the 15mm a mattebox is not advisable due to the front element which is protruding also most matteboxes would vignette. As usual we cleaned all lens cells including the iris, and these lenses are all in excellent condition, we will file all small damages in the lens description below, feel free to contact us for extra photos or information about these lenses through [email protected].

Leica Elmarit-R 16mm Fisheye F2.8 – sn 2990527 (1K)

The Leica Elmarit 16mm Fisheye was produced  from 1974-2011, and only 2950 of these lenses were produced. It Covers Large Format 36X24mm sensors and features 4 inbuilt filters (uv, orange, yellow and blue ).  It has a 180 diagonal angle of view on a 36X24 camera. Opposed to a rectilinear lens a fisheye can produce a much wider angle of view compared to a equivalent focal length that’s non fisheye, to name an example the rectilinear Leica super-elmar 15mm features a 110 degree diagonal viewing angle.  You can find all Specs HERE.

We rate the cosmic condition of this lens 9/10, it’s basically like new. Mechanically the focus rotation is very smooth since we regreased this lens and its equipped with a 0.8pitch gear ring it’s very suitable to be used with remote focus. The iris blades are clean and move as they should. Optically we rate this lens 9/10, only one faint cleaning mark on the front coating which wont pop up in your footage and is very common for these lenses which feature soft coating and a protruding front element. During the torch light test we found very few dust particles, overall a very neat condition. Same goes for the rear element which is almost completely mint.

Leica Super-Elmar-R 15mm F3.5 – sn 3004499 (2.5k)

Only 3000 of these lenses were produced between 1979 and 2002 and this copy dates back from 1979. It’s a very special lens that has the distinctive leica R look due to optical design and coatings, but has a very wide angle of view with very low barrel distortion making it ideal for Architecture, and unlike modern wide angles, it doesn’t lack character or depth, and has a very good spectral sensitivity and renders colors with a slight boost in the reds and produces beautiful flares, that overlay the image very subtlety without glaring or overpowering the image. A very nice Leica lens that we use quite often, when a dramatic angle is needed. Obviously it covers a large format 36X24 without vignetting. The lens features in-build filters (uv, yellow, orange and blue), making it even ideal for digital shooting. Since Most sensors are biased for daylight shooting a blue filter can be used in tungsten lighting improving the spectral sensitivity of a bayer sensor in such extreme lighting conditions.Find all complete specifications HERE.

Cosmetically we rate this lens 8/10, the anodized front has a few scratches because of mounting the cap, other than that a very minty condition, which is rare to be found with this typical lens. Mechanically focus was regreased and smooth, and iris blades are clean and move as they should. Optically we rate this lens 8/10. The front has only one extremely small coating cleaning mark, which is again very rare, since this lens element is exposed to everything because it protrudes enormously it’s very likely that it takes some hits, which is not the case with this copy. Only reason we give it a 8/10 and not a 9/10 is because of the rear element which has some cleaning marks that won’t affect the optical path, but should be mentioned, no deep scratches though. Leica r coatings are pretty soft so easy to damage.

Leica Elmarit-R 19mm F2.8 -sn 3248651 (3K)

This is the 8th release of the Elmarit-R 19mm (released between 1982-1987, only one batch was released after this one. This lens is most commonly known as the V1. The lens covers a 36X24 frame (full frame). Find all specs HERE.

We rate the cosmetic condition of this lens 9/10, barely any scratches on its body. Mechanically the lens was regreased and focus rotation is very smooth, and suitable for remote focus by means of a 0.8 pitch gear ring. There is no oil on the Iris blades. Optically we rate this lens 8/10 a few small pieces of dust inside the lens that won’t affect the lens optically and which is normal for a lens of this age, front coating is in good condition and only when looking very carefully we can witness some small faint marks/shallow scratches due to cleaning and small coating deterioration (tiny soapbells) which is to be seen on any v1 of this lens and happens due to aging, and seems to be very stable and can only be witnessed when studied closely with a torch light, the rear element is very clean and mint. Obviously there is no haze, fungus or other lens defect.

Leica Elmarit-R 24mm F2.8 – sn 3837202 (0.79 k)

Produced between 1974-2006 this copy of the lens was produced in 1998 and among one of the last of these lenses to be produced, so a very late serial number. The condition is mint 9/10 because 10/10 can only be given to a brand new lens) and we regreased the helicoid and added a 0.8 pitch gearring. We also added a 80mm front outer diameter ring so the lens can be used with clamp on matte boxes, the inner filter thread can still be used with this adapter. All info about this typical lens can be found HERE.

Leica Summicron-R 35mm F2.0 v2 – sn 3282420 (0.8K)

This beautiful mint summicron was produced in 1983 and is in excellent condition. This lens was originally designed in 1967 and produced until 1999. We rate the optics and cosmetics at 9/10 because 10/10 does not exist for a vintage lens. Only small pieces of dust which is normal for such a lens, and won’t affect optical quality in any way. We regreased the helicoid and added a 0.8 gearring and a 80mm front diameter for clamp-on matte boxes, and the inner filter thread of this lens can still be used. You can find all specifications of this lens HERE.

Leica Summilux-R 50mm F1.4 – sn 3169308 (0.8K)

Produced in 1982 and another example of an almost mint condition Leica R as if it was produced yesterday. This lens was designed in 1970 and produced until 1995. It has a tiny spot on the front element, and other than that superb mint, the rear element is clean, almost no dust. We regreased the lens, cleaned the iris, and added a 0.8 focus gear and a 80mm front outer diameter (internal filter thread can still be used). More information about this lens can be found HERE.

Leica Macro-Elmarit-R 60mm F2.8 – sn 3336313 (0.4K)

This lens was produced in 1984 and the lens was designed in 1970 and produced until 1998. The overall condition of the lens is good, the front element has some very faint scratches due to cleaning and won’t affect optical quality and the scratches are only hairlines in the coating. Very faint, and the rear element is clean.Only very small amount of dust like on all of our handpicked lenses, a typical thing for lenses that were stored in a humidity controlled environment. We added a 80mm front outer diameter for clamp-on matteboxes, and the inner filter thread of the lens is still accessible. The lens was regreased and the iris cleaned. You can find more specifications HERE.

Leica Summilux-R 80mm F1.4 – sn 3599606 (2k)

This mint copy of the 80mm Summilux was produced in 1992, this lens was produced from 1980 until 2002. If we look closely with a torch light we can see some very faint scratches in the soft coating, which are not affecting the optical path, and we rate these optics 9/10. Due to dry storage in humidity controlled conditions, this lens has very few dust specs, and is a perfect example of a Mint condition Leica R lens. The helicoid was regreased for smooth focus and we added a 0.8 high grade 0.8 pitch ring for focus motors and remote focus, on top of that we added a 80mm front outer diameter for clamp on matteboxes the inner filter thread can still be accessed. More information about this lens can be found HERE.

Leica Macro-Elmar-R 100mm F4.0 – sn 2885598 (0.3K)

This lens was produced in 1978, it has  a bit more dust than the others, but overall the condition is good and we rate this one optically  8/10, obviously no issues like separation, or fungus or haze, just an older lens but due to its focal length and optical structure you won’t see any effect of any dust. Cosmetically in nice condition, and the iris was cleaned and the helicoid was regreased we added a 0.8 pitch gear ring and a 80mm front outer diameter for clamp on matteboxes (inner filter thread still accessible). Morel info about this lens can be found HERE.

Leica Elmarit-R 180mm F2.8 – sn 2542511 (0.2)

This lens was produced in 1972 and is the oldest of this set and we think this version of the 180mm is a better match to the others than the newer Apochromatic version of this lens. This lens was designed in 1966 and produced until 1978. Optically it’s in good condition regardless of its age, some faint coating scratches due to cleaning, and a small chip in the front coating which doesn’t pop up in its bokeh balls because it doesn’t sit in the center. There is some dust inside but non of this is abnormal for a lens this age and will not affect the optical quality of this lens, due to the small chip in the front coating we rate this lens optically 7/10. The lens was cleaned and regreased and equipped with a 0.8mm gear-ring and a 80mm front outer diameter (filter thread is still accessible). You can find more information about this specific lens HERE.
